INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The political jockeying to potentially replace Gov. Mike Pence on Indiana’s November ballot won’t include his popular predecessor Mitch Daniels.

Supporters of the Purdue University president had launched a “Draft Mitch” effort if Donald Trump names Pence as his vice presidential running mate. But former Republican governor said Thursday he won’t seek the job.

Pence has been in a contentious re-election campaign and would have until noon Friday to withdraw his name as a candidate for governor since state law prevents him from seeking two offices at once.

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb, Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma and U.S. Reps. Todd Rokita and Susan Brooks have also been mentioned as possible options should Republicans need to replace Pence on the ballot.
