GENESEE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Flint-area churches have been hit by thieves who steal air conditioners or break them to get access to valuable copper.

New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church in Genesee Township discovered damage worth $50,000 two weeks ago. Church trustee Barry Turner says he can't imagine why someone would target a house of worship.

At least 11 air conditioners at area churches have been broken into in the past year at a loss of $175,000. Genesee Township police say there are no suspects.

Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Flint noticed a damaged air conditioner about three weeks ago. Church elder Lavarne Ross says the thieves seem to be pros.
