Crashes put spotlight on Indiana driver licensing Created by jzimney on 2/5/2012 11:02:04 AM Pin It
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — A series of crashes into storefronts in and around Lafayette has left a trail of property damage, but the drivers responsible are likely still behind the wheel because of Indiana's policies on restricting driver's licenses.
Some of the five crashes that have occurred since Aug. 29 have involved senior citizens. But Bureau of Motor Vehicles spokesman Graig Lubsen says those drivers don't have more license restrictions than other drivers.
Lubsen says drivers age 75 and up must have their licenses renewed more frequently. The only thing that would prevent a renewal would be failing the vision test.
A driving test is required only for an initial license. That skills test doesn't assess for inexperience or reflexes.
