INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The big party the city of Indianapolis spent years preparing for is over, but the cleanup from Sunday's Super Bowl is just beginning.

Workers on Monday will begin dismantling tents, removing decorations and hauling away trash the day after the city capped a week of festivities by hosting the big game, which the New York Giants won 21-17 over the New England Patriots.

Their work returning the city to normalcy will take days and will include reopening streets closed down last week around the Super Bowl village. Most streets will be reopened by Wednesday afternoon.

Super Bowl Host Committee officials say total attendance at the Super Bowl village during the festivities likely topped 1 million people.

Visiting East Coast fans of both teams heaped praise on Indy as it hosted the NFL's showcase for the first time.

Jason Pagni from New Hamden, Conn., says he's attended 15 Super Bowls, and the commercial laundry owner and Giants fan ranks Indianapolis a close second to New Orleans when it comes to his favorite venues. New Orleans hosts the game next year.

Like other fans, Pagni credits Indy for its friendliness, cleanliness and the compactness of sites to take in, making everything within walking distance.
