Police were tipped off by the suspect’s girlfriend who says he beat the dog to death, then put it in the garage--where officers discovered the animal wrapped in a mattress cover.
She says the 33 year old suspect beat the dog daily over a 3 year time frame it belonged to her and her kids. He says the dog was sick, he couldn’t afford to take it to a vet, and that he found it dead in the backyard, and put the animal in the garage to wait for the ground to thaw so he could bury it.
The South Bend Tribune reports the Humane Society currently has the corpse.
