Mayor Buttigieg serving a two-week stint in U.S. Navy Reserve in Washington D.C.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is fulfilling his yearly two-week obligation to the U.S. Navy Reserve in Washington D.C.

It is a regular part of his annual service requirement. Mayor Buttigieg will be in daily contact with his Administration, according to the Mayor’s Communications Director Kara Kelly.

Mayor Buttigieg took a leave of absence to serve in Afghanistan during a seven-month deployment in 2014, earning the Joint Service Commendation Medal for his counter-terrorism work.

Mayor Buttigieg’s two-week stint began on Sunday, May 31 and will end on Saturday, June 13. He serves as a Lieutenant in U.S. Navy Reserve.
