Head-on crash on U.S. 421 near Westville results in critical injuries

Five people were hospitalized after a head-on crash in LaPorte County.

Three of the victims, a 43-year-old man, 40-year-old man and 10-year-old boy, all from Valparaiso, were taken flown to a nearby hospital and are believed to be in critical condition, according to LaPorte County Sheriff’s Capt. Michael Kellums.

The three victims were in a pick-up truck that collided head-on with an SUV at about 5:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday, June 9, on U.S. 421 about a half-mile south of U.S. 6.

Two other people who were in the SUV were taken to hospitals in ambulances.

U.S. 421 was closed for several hours after the collision. The road reopened to traffic shortly before 10 a.m. CDT.

La Porte County Sheriff’s Detectives as well as crash reconstruction investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, are investigating the cause of the crash.
