A Marshall County man suspected in the death of a Bremen girl was sentenced to eight years in prison for an unrelated charge.

Fabian Rubio, 20, was charged with sexual misconduct and rape in December 2014 after an incident with a 15-year-old girl, according to court records.

Rubio pleaded guilty to the sexual misconduct charge in court on Wednesday, June 10. In exchange for the guilty plea, the rape charge was dropped, according to the Marshall County Prosecutor. Two years of Rubio’s sentence was suspended.

He is still being held at Marshall County Jail while he awaits trial for a separate case.

Rubio was charged in May with murder, sexual misconduct with a minor and abuse of a corpse in the death of 15-year-old Desirae Jones of Bremen, whose body was found burned in a wooded area on Fifth Road south of Bremen.

An autopsy showed that Jones died of blunt force trauma.
