Lapaz man is missing after possibly falling into Tippecanoe River

Police are searching for a Lapaz man who authorities say may have fallen into the Tippecanoe River on Wednesday, June 17.

The missing man, Aaron Tracy Eckman, 20, was last seen around 2 a.m. Wednesday near a home in the 7900 block of West Olson Road in Leiters Ford, according to a news release from Indiana State Police. Police believe he was visiting his girlfriend’s relatives.

At about 2:40 a.m. the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 hang-up call from the home where Eckman was last seen. Police believe Eckman may have fallen into the river based on their investigation.

Police searched a five-mile area with boats and sonar, but the search ended after seven hours when the current became too swift and the water got too high.

Searchers combed the riverbank in the area but did not find Eckman.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Indiana State Police at 765-473-6666.
