Man hospitalized after fire erupts on front porch of home in Elkhart

One man has been taken to the hospital after a fire on the porch of a home.

Crews were called, Sunday morning, June 21, to the 23700 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Elkhart.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital. The severity of his injuries is not known.

Crews say the man was smoking a cigarette at the time and the propane from a grill was turned on, but they have not made a final determination of the what caused the fire as of late Sunday morning, according to WNDU.

The fire was contained to the porch area of the home.
