Giannetto’s Pizza and Pasta may offer the best pizza in St. Joseph County, but it wasn’t enough to make it past the first round in the regional voting of Northern Indiana Pizza Wars.

The restaurant lost to Albano’s Villa, a pizzeria in Michigan City that was named the LaPorte County champion. Giannetto’s earned 47 percent of the vote.

Rulli’s, Elkhart County’s Pizza Wars winner, earned 39 percent of the vote to lose to Iannarelli’s Italian Restaurant in LaGrange County.

Iechyd Da Brewing Company in Elkhart County was the chosen wildcard out of all seven counties. It lost to The Wooden Peel from Marshall County after receiving 37 percent of the vote.

The second round of voting started June 22 and goes through Thursday, June 25. The third and final round of voting will begin Friday, June 26, and end Monday, June 29. The Northern Indiana Pizza Wars champion will be named Tuesday, June 30.
