South Bend boy, 2, hospitalized after being found in pool at grandmother's house

A South Bend boy, 2, was hospitalized after falling into a pool at his grandmother’s house and nearly drowning.

Berrien County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in the 1800 block of Stateline Road in Niles Township, Mich, just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, on a report of a child not breathing, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

Police arrived and started CPR until paramedics arrived on scene.

The child was then transported to Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

As of late Thursday night, doctors were still working on the victim. He was reported to be in critical condition at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 3.

The child was visiting his grandmother’s house with his mother. It is not known at this time why or how the child got in the water. The incident is still under investigation.
