Counterfeit money reports on the rise in Elkhart, police say

By: Jon Zimney

Businesses and residents in Elkhart should double check money to make sure its real after the Elkhart Police Department has seen a spike in counterfeit money incidents.

The department has received 20 counterfeiting reports in 2015 so far and seven of those were filed in July, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the department.

Individuals and businesses should check for counterfeit dollars by looking for security strips, water marks, color shifting ink, micro printing and by the texture and thickness of the paper, Snyder said.

Anyone who receives counterfeit money should report it to police.
