A man was injured in a shooting last week in South Bend after an altercation.

At about 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 23, police were called to the 1400 block of Fassnacht Avenue after an alert about gunfire, according to the South Bend Tribune

Upon arrival, police found a 28-year-old man injured and bleeding from the gunshot wound, but he was still conscious, the South Bend Tribune reports.

Witnesses told police there was a large group of people in the area and told police the victim was flying a Confederate flag and shouting racial slurs, FOX 28 reports.

The victim told police he was in his vehicle when he and three men, who were on foot, had an argument, according to the South Bend Tribune. Police say one of the three men fired shots from a pistol at the vehicle, which then hit the victim. According to the Tribune, the group and suspected gunman fled in a red Pontiac Grand Prix.

The man was taken to the hospital and as of Friday, July 24, no charges were filed, according to FOX 28
