The man found dead inside a Corby Boulevard home on Tuesday, July 28, died of a gunshot wound, an autopsy showed.
Curtis William Trent, 45, was inside a home in the 400 block of Corby Boulevard when the homeowner returned just after 11 a.m., according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The homeowner, 73-year-old Michael Parcher, armed himself with a .22-caliber pistol and confronted Trent, who told Parcher he was also armed, the South Bend Tribune reported. Trent pushed Parcher down the stairs and then ran past him.
At some point, a gun was fired and Trent was wounded, according to the news release. Trent died at the scene.
He was positively identified as the suspect in the burglary, according to the news release.
Commander Tim Corbett with the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide said he couldn’t comment further on the incident because it is still under investigation.
