Crews on scene of fire at dairy farm in Walkerton

Firefighters are working to bring in foam to help extinguish a fire burning at a dairy farm in Walkerton.

Firefighters were called to a dairy farm in the 72000 block of Walnut Road at about 7 a.m. Thick, grey smoke could be seen billowing from structures burning on the property.

Crews extinguished part of the blaze, which may have been started by hot, moist hay, WNDU reported.

Walkerton Fire Chief Tod Brems told WNDU that they could just let it burn, but it would burn for up to a month. Instead, crews are working to get equipment to the farm that would spray foam over the fire, which could act like a blanket and smother the blaze.
