A Paw Paw man is recovering from injuries after he was run over by his own pick-up truck and pinned underneath.
The 59-year-old man was traveling along Red Arrow Highway, near Rolling Meadows Blvd., in Antwerp Township when he pulled his vehicle over to the side of the roadway to retrieve an item from the back of the truck, according to a news release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.
While getting the item, the vehicle began to drive backwards and backed over the owner, pinning him underneath, according to the news release.
A witness saw what happened and managed to get into the driver’s seat. The witness then drove the vehicle off from the man before emergency crews arrived.
The victim sustained injuries to his legs and pelvic area where the tires had rolled onto him.
Police say the vehicle had not been placed into “park” but was actually left in “reverse.”
