SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend has received an industry award that places it among the likes of the New York City Center and the Fabulous Fox in Atlanta.

The theater was named the recipient of the 2015 Historic Theater Award from the national League of Historic American Theaters. Morris center executive director Dennis Andres says the honor is partly in recognition of the extensive renovations that have improved the theater over the past 15 years.

He tells the South Bend Tribune that about $25 million has been invested in the 1920s theater since 2000.

Marketing director Mary Ellen Smith says the Morris Performing Arts Center also has been named among the top 100 theaters in the world every year for the past 15 years.
