Homeschooled students, private school students can play sports at South Bend schools

Homeschooled students and students at unaccredited private schools will be able to play sports and get involved in other extracurricular activities at South Bend Community School Corporation schools beginning this school year.

The school board voted 6-1 in favor of suspending a policy that barred them from taking part during its meeting Tuesday night, Aug. 18, the South Bend Tribune reported.

Students will be required to enroll in at least one course at a South Bend school in order to join a sport or extracurricular activity, which matches a new guideline set by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Tribune reported.

Find out more about the policy and learn about similar policies at Mishawaka and Penn-Harris-Madison schools in the full story from the South Bend Tribune.
