The former Polish National Alliance building on the west side of South Bend is one step closer to being demolished.

The South Bend Common Council voted 6-1 this week approving the sale of the PNA building to the Department for Community Investment for $210,000, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Henry Davis Jr., who represents the district the PNA building is in, opposed the measure.

Once the sale is finalized, the building will be demolished and the city of South Bend will use the land to widen the intersection at Western Avenue and Olive Street, the Tribune reported.

The PNA is still an active group, but left the building in June because it was too expensive for them to maintain. They have not yet announced a new location.

The PNA is hosting an auction at the building at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, to auction off the remaining assets of the building and sell mementos.
