With winter just around the corner, the Indiana Department of Transportation has made some changes to its snow removal efforts in an effort to improve efficiency and ensure that crews are maintaining state roads more effectively.
Some of the changes include realigning snow plow routes to ensure more efficient snow and ice removal, according to an INDOT news release. The realignment includes reopening two maintenance crew bases of operations to cover South Bend, Mishawaka, Plymouth, Rochester, Monticello, and Logansport.
The agency will also use new equipment to more efficiently tackle snow and ice, including two new tow plows which can clear two lanes of highway at once, while only using one driver, according to the news release.
Leaders of INDOT Northwest are confident the changes, which are already in effect, will improve their efficiency heading into the winter season.
