Mishawaka City Council, South Bend Common Council candidates to appear in forums in coming weeks

Candidates running for city council spots in Mishawaka and South Bend will meet for candidate forums in the next few weeks.

At-large candidates for Mishawaka City Council will meet for a forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the Weikamp Hall Auditorium at IU South Bend. Dr. James Smith, a political science professor and co-director of the American Democracy Project at IUSB, will moderate the forum.

Republican Dan Bilancio and Democrats Joe Canarecci, Matt Mammolenti and John Roggeman are running for at-large seats. Questions can be emailed to rjsantos@umail.iu.edu with the subject line of: MISHAWAKA at-large QUESTION.

South Bend Common Council candidates will meet for a forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Weikamp Hall Auditorium at IUSB. The forum will be moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Bennion, a political science professor at IUSB and co-director of the American Democracy Project.

The South Bend Common Council candidates are: 

  • District 1 — Tim Scott (D)
  • District 2 — Regina Preston (D) and Henry Davis Jr. (I)
  • District 3 — Randy Kelly (D)
  • District 4 — Jo Broden (D)
  • District 5 — Robert Emery(D)
  • District 6 —Oliver Davis
  • At Large — John Voorde and Karen White

Audience members will be able to submit questions on note cards during both forums, but should not wear any piece of clothing or buttons or hold signs declaring support for a party or candidate.

The events are free and open to the public. Visitors may park in free visitor parking on campus.
