An Elkhart man was arrested after police say he led them on a high-speed chase through Elkhart, St. Joseph and Cass counties early Saturday morning, Oct. 17.
The pursuit began just after 2 a.m. when a Goshen police officer attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of County Road 45 and Old County Road 17, according to a Goshen Police Department report.
The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Tobias J. Johnson of Elkhart, took off, the police report stated.
Johnson drove into St. Joseph County before returning into Elkhart County then heading north into Cass County, Mich., the police report stated.
The pursuit ended near Edwardsburg, Mich., when Cass County deputies located the vehicle abandoned on the side of North Shore Drive, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies saw Johnson running into the woods.
The officers found methamphetamine, heroin and a loaded semi-automatic pistol in his possession when they caught up to him, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department news release.
Johnson was taken to the Cass County Jail.
Two other subjects are believed to be involved this incident, which remains under investigation at this time.
