The state of Indiana filed a petition for the Indiana Supreme Court to rehear cases for three members of the Elkhart Four whose felony murder convictions were overturned.

The Elkhart Circuit Court was instructed by the high court in September to find Blake Layman, Levi Sparks and Anthony Sharp Jr. guilty of burglary as a Class B felony, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Prior to that, Layman and Sharp received sentences of 55 years in prison and Sparks received a sentence of 50 years in prison in connection with a 2012 Elkhart burglary that led to a fatal shooting, The Elkhart Truth reported.

Court records show the state of Indiana, represented by the county prosecutor’s office, mailed a petition to rehear the cases, which could happen as early as Monday, Oct. 26.
