Daughter of Elkhart pastor shot during robbery attempt at her home has died

The daughter of an Elkhart pastor who was shot in her Indianapolis home on Tuesday, Nov. 10, has died, according to the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

Amanda Blackburn, 28, who is the daughter of Phil Byars, the lead pastor at First Baptist Church on County Road 17 in Elkhart. was shot during an attempted robbery at her home, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

The victim’s husband, Davery Blackburn, came home from the gym to find Blackburn unconscious on the floor, according to WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. was in the home at the time of the shooting. He was not injured.

Blackburn moved with her husband in 2012 from South Carolina to Indianapolis to found the Resonate Church. The independent church is located on Indianapolis’ north side.

Blackburn was 12 weeks pregnant with her second child.

Office Manager Marchele Hall of the Marion County Coroner’s office said Thursday that 28-year-old Amanda Blackburn was pronounced dead Wednesday. She had been on life support. Hall says an autopsy would be performed Thursday.

Police have not released details about a suspect or suspects, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Crimestoppers of Central Indiana is offering a reward of $1,000 to anyone who can provide more information about the shooting and attempted robbery, The Elkhart Truth reported.
