Michiana residents are dealing with temperatures in the teens and lower, and some of them must do so without power.

Indiana Michigan Power Co. reports more than 3,900 of its Indiana customers had no power as of 9 a.m. Sunday.

As of 12 p.m. on Sunday, 2,345 of those were in the South Bend area, where the National Weather Service reports nearly 9 inches of snow have fallen.

In Berrien County, Mich., 2,515 customers were without power. Several hundred customers were without electricity in Elkhart, LaPorte, Cass and Van Buren Counties, as well.

I&M released a statement stating they hoped to have power fully restored by midnight on Sunday night.

Midwest Energy Cooperative released this information regarding their ongoing efforts to restore power to their customers:

“The end is in sight for the Midwest Energy Cooperative members who have been without power following Saturday’s wet, heavy snowstorm, and the line crews who have braved the elements to restore service. At 11:15 a.m Sunday, only about 40 remain without power, including two line outages and a handful of individual outages. Crews are working in the areas still impacted, and will continue in the field today until all outages are restored.”

Other snowfall totals include 8½ inches near Angola in the northeast corner of the state and 5 inches in Kokomo.

The storm contributed to a traffic death about 2 p.m. Saturday on Indiana 28 near Muncie. Delaware County Sheriff Ray Dudley says 17-year-old Allie Marie McKim of Modoc died after being thrown from a car that crossed left of center and struck a bucket truck in slushy conditions.
