SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A South Bend woman accused of killing her 11-month-old son and smothering her daughter has appeared in court to argue against using statements made to police.

The South Bend Tribune reports Nyesha Crockett and attorney Charles Lahey outlined their case Friday, focusing on a four-hour August police interrogation.

Crockett is accused in her son’s August 2014 death and an earlier injury to her daughter that left her in a coma.

Crockett and her attorney argue that homicide detectives coerced statements. They filed a motion in August asking the judge not to use the evidence.

But prosecutors argue Crockett was read her rights and allowed to take breaks.

St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller isn’t expected to rule on the motion until at least Dec. 11.
