Wages up in Elkhart County, still lagging previous highs

Workers’ wages are up and poverty is down in Elkhart County ever since the economic downtown of the late 2000s and early 2010s.

The annual average wage in all labor sectors in 2014 totaled nearly $38,000, which is the highest since at least 2006 according to figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Census Bureau.

The average wages in 2014 for those working in the manufacturing and production sectors still lags behind the highs of the late 2000s, and it’s the single largest block of workers in manufacturing-heavy Elkhart County, according to The Elkhart Truth.

The number of people working in the county in 2014 also lags behind pre-recession highs.
