Police: Goshen man shoots wife, then dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound

A Goshen man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting his wife, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 58000 block of Steiner Drive in Goshen around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 on the report of a shooting at a home.

On arrival, they found the 37-year-old victim who was shot in the lower leg. Elkhart City Police and

Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Services Units, with the assistance of the Elkhart City Police Department, also responded to the scene and later found the woman’s 40-year-old husband dead of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, according to a sheriff’s department report.

The woman taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment to her injuries.

Sheriff’s Department detectives are still investigating the incident with the assistance of the Elkhart County Coroner’s office.
