More leadership changes were announced this week at the Elkhart Police Department.

Ed Windbigler, who was sworn in as chief of the department on Jan. 1, appointed four officers to his command staff.

Todd Thayer is the new assistant chief, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder, police spokesman. Thayer is a 24-year veteran of EPD who has worked in several roles, including firearms instructor and special response team operator.

Brent Long, a 22-year EPD veteran, was named uniform captain. He’s worked in the department’s anti-crime unit and the Elkhart County drug task force.

Steve Price was chosen as detective captain. A 19-year veteran of the department, he has served in the patrol division, detective bureau and the homicide unit, Snyder said.

And finally, Bryan Moore is the new services captain. He’s been with the EPD for nine years and has 14 years of law enforcement experience.
