Police say a Mishawaka man led police on a chase through LaPorte County in a stolen vehicle, reaching speeds up to 90 miles an hour and forcing other vehicles off the road before OnStar stopped the chase.

Todd Kimberlin was arrested on preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended and reckless driving on Tuesday, Jan. 19, WSBT reported.

Police in LaPorte were notified at about 4:30 p.m. that a gold 2012 Chevy Traverse was stolen in Plymouth and headed to LaPorte County, ABC 57 reported. Officers were able to predict the SUV’s movements using the OnStar service inside the vehicle.

Officers spotted the vehicle while it was heading north on U.S. 35, and the driver led police through LaPorte County, speeding as fast as 90 mph.

OnStar was activated inside the vehicle without the driver knowing. Police requested that OnStar slow down the vehicle’s speed after they noticed it was approaching a school bus, the South Bend Tribune reported.

The SUV was slowed to about 20 mph and an officer forced the stolen vehicle off the road. Kimberlin was ordered out of the vehicle and then arrested.
