Deadly hit-and-run crash, probation violation leads to 8-year prison sentence for Edwardsburg man

A 38-year-old Edwardsburg, Mich., man was sentenced to 8 years in prison in connection to a deadly hit-and-run crash in South Bend and a probation violation.

Mark Madejek, pleaded guilty without a deal to driving while suspended causing death of another person and leaving the scene of a crash in which someone died, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

He was charged in connection to a hit-and-run crash on S.R. 23 near Ironwood Drive in which 27-year-old Stephen Stetz was seriously injured on Oct. 17. Stetz died Oct. 23.

A judge sentenced Madejek to 7 years in prison for those charges.

He was sentenced to an additional year, meant to be served consecutively, for a probation violation.
