Two people injured in drive-by shooting on Saturday afternoon in Elkhart

Two people were injured in a drive-by shooting in Elkhart.

Elkhart Police were called to the 1500 block of Frances Avenue around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Witnesses told police two vehicles were involved in the shooting. One of the vehicles was described as a silver-colored SUV. Police found no victims or damage at the scene, according to a news release from the Elkhart Police Department.

Minutes later, officers were sent to the 1100 block of Lafayette Street on the report of a home that had been shot at. Officers arrived and found a single bullet hole in the residence. There were no injuries in connection with the shot fired, the news release stated.

Officers were also called to Elkhart General Hospital where two people with gunshot injuries arrived in a silver SUV.

The victims told police they were in the area of Prairie and Garfield when people in a black SUV shot at them. The gunshots hit the driver of the SUV and a passenger. A second passenger in the SUV drove the victims to the hospital.

The victims told police the people in the black SUV continued to shoot at them. Police believe one of the suspects’ bullets had struck a home in the 1100 block of Lafayette Street.
