Travel conditions are gradually getting worse throughout northern Indiana as a winter storm moves through the area.
As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, here are the travel advisories, watches and warnings:
- Travel watch — St. Joseph County, LaPorte County, Marshall County, Elkhart County, Starke County, Kosciusko County
A travel advisory means that drivers should be cautious and roadways could be restricted or hazardous in some areas.
A travel watch means that road conditions are threatening. Only essential travel, like driving to work, is recommended. Businesses and organizations should begin to plan for emergency action plans.
A travel warning means that road conditions are so treacherous that drivers should avoid all traveling except in emergency situations only. Local governments may enact travel bans.
WEATHER FORECAST
A blizzard warning is in effect until 10 p.m. EST Wednesday in LaPorte, St. Joseph, Marshall, Starke, Pulaski, Fulton and White counties.
A winter storm warning is in effect for the entire listening area from 10 a.m. EST Wednesday until 4 p.m. EST Thursday.
Up to 12 inches of snow is expected to fall throughout Michiana by Thursday afternoon. Most of the snow is expected to fall after 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to ABC 57 meteorologist Greg Bobos.
In addition to the snow, winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected and could cause blowing snow and whiteout conditions.
