Penn Kingsman beats Columbus North for Class 4A title

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Cameron Buhr scored 24 points and Kaitlyn Marenyi had 21 as the Penn Kingsman knocked off defending state champion Columbus North 68-48 to win the IHSAA Class 4A girls basketball state title Saturday night.

It was the first girls basketball state championship in Penn history.

Buhr hit 8 of 12 shots from the field and all seven of her free throw attempts. Marenyi hit 7 of 10 shots from the field and five of six free throws.

As a team, Penn shot 52.3 percent from the field. Penn (28-2) jumped out to a 13-point lead in the first quarter behind four 3-point field goals by four different players.

Penn led at the break 30-28, then broke the game open in the third quarter by outscoring Columbus North 24-9 to take a 54-37 lead. The Kingsmen closed the third quarter on an 11-0 run.

Imani Guy led the Bull Dogs with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Maliah Howard-Bass added 11 points.
