South Bend woman collected more than $20,000 of unemployment benefits while working full-time

A South Bend woman was sentenced to three years of probation after officials say she collected $20,044 in unemployment insurance benefits while she was working full time.

Brenda Sanders, 54, pleaded guilty to unemployment insurance fraud as a class C felony and was ordered to pay all of the money back, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The investigation began because the DWD monitors wage reports and new hire data from companies around the state.

Suspected cases of unemployment insurance fraud can be reported anonymously online.
