The next time you visit the Potawatomi Zoo, you might want to make a few special stops to see the new babies born there over the winter.

The newest baby animal is a rare female Sichuan Takin born Tuesday, March 1, according to the Potawatomi Zoo.

Takin (which rhymes with rockin’) are goats that resemble antelopes. They’re native to bamboo forests in China, but the takin population is declining because their natural habitats have been destroyed.

Two agouti and three banded mongoose babies were born in late January.

All six baby animals will be on exhibit during the zoo’s final Winter Day on Saturday, March 5. The zoo will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $5.50 per person and children 2 and younger are free. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures and an egg hunt will take place from noon to 2:30 p.m.
