MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) — Service resumed on Saturday night, March 12, after the South Shore train has derailed in northern Indiana.

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District said on its website that the derailment happened early Saturday morning in Michigan City.

A statement from the South Shore Line said no passengers were on board the train, which derailed as it was being moved into position. The statement also says that the track and overhead wire were damaged.

Here is a statement issued at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District, which operated the South Shore line about the derailment:

All South Shore train service has been suspended. A passenger train derailed as it was being moved into position for revenue service in Michigan City. There were no passengers on board and no injuries. We have called for specialized re-railing equipment. There is also damage to our overhead wire and track. All South Shore personnel have been dispatched to the scene to make repairs and restore service as quickly as possible.
