Indiana Toll Road crash has traffic down to one lane between South Bend and Mishawaka

Two people were seriously injured and the westbound lanes are down to one lane near mile marker 79 after a crash that happened early Thursday morning, March 17.

A semi carrying acid traveling west collided with a car also traveling west at about 3:40 a.m., according to our news partners ABC 57.

One person was extricated from the car and rushed to an area hospital with critical injuries, ABC 57 reported. The second person in the car was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

The semi driver suffered minor injuries.

It’s not believed that the acid was leaking, but hazardous material crews are working to get the semi away from the scene.

Traffic can only get through the right lane, but traffic is backed up.

As of 8:30 a.m., 95.3 MNC listeners reported that traffic was backed up east of the Mishawaka exit at mile marker 83. There is also a long wait to get off at exit 83.

Traffic reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
