Navigate downtown South Bend construction with city's Smart Streets website

Road construction is expected to make traveling through downtown South Bend a bit difficult this summer, but the city of South Bend has a new tool to help drivers.

The city launched a new Smart Streets page on the South Bend government website on Thursday, March 31. The website features a calendar of planned construction, interactive maps that include road closures and detours and live webcams of streets.

Users can also sign up for email notifications about the Smart Streets construction project.

The page can be accessed on all mobile devices.

Construction will begin the week of April 4 and is expected to wrap up sometime in the fall. Planned projects include installing three new roundabouts, converting Main Street and Michigan/St. Joseph streets from one-way roads to two-way roads, adding bike lanes, installing curbs and sidewalks and planting trees.

Businesses will stay open during construction.
