Notre Dame's season opener against Texas to be played on Sunday night

The first Notre Dame football game of 2016 will be played on Sunday, Sept. 4.

The official start time hasn’t been announced, but it will be an exclusive prime time slot sometime in the evening, according to Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish are taking on the Texas Longhorns in the game that was originally scheduled for Sept. 3. The Irish are 9-2 against the Longhorns.

“A game of the magnitude of Notre Dame-Texas, played on the opening weekend of the college football season, deserves a special place on the Labor Day sports calendar,” Jack Swarbick, Notre Dame’s athletic director, said in a statement. “With this move we have secured that place and by doing so are providing a greater opportunity for fans of college football to enjoy what is sure to be another great game in a classic rivalry that dates back to 1913.”
