A man and at least two dogs were killed in a house fire in Fulton County early Monday morning, April 25, but the man’s wife was able to escape unharmed.

The fire was reported at about 4:30 a.m. along 700 North near U.S. 31, WSBT reported.

The woman woke up and smelled smoke. She tried to alert her husband, 61-year-old Charles Fruitt, who was sleeping in the living room, but she couldn’t get to him because of the smoke, WSBT reported.

She escaped the house unharmed.

Investigators believe the fire started in the living room, WNDU reported.

They said the fire was electrical in nature and was an accident.

Two of the family’s three dogs also died in the fire. The family’s third dog hasn’t been found.
