South Bend residents are being warned about scammers spreading lies about the city’s water quality in order to get personal information.

People pretending to work for the city’s water department are going door-to-door and telling residents that the city’s water is having issues similar to the problems in Flint, Mich., our news partners ABC 57.

The city of South Bend says it has not detected any problems with the city’s water supply, which is pumped from wells and does not come from the St. Joseph River. The water in South Bend is tested for copper and lead levels routinely, ABC 57 reported.

If a South Bend resident has someone come to the door warning about unsafe water quality, residents should call 311 to verify with the water department.
