Nine people hurt in crash at US 421 and US 6 in LaPorte County

Nine people were hurt in a crash in LaPorte County.

The collision happened just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 at the intersection of U.S. 421 and U.S. 6 which is located just south of the town of Westville, according to a news release from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon arrival deputies found that two vehicles were involved with nine victims with serious injuries, including one passenger that had been ejected from a vehicle, the news release stated.

A six-year-old child was flown from the scene to the University of Illinois in Chicago, the news release stated.

The man that was ejected from a vehicle was rushed to Porter Hospital and later flown to Loyola Hospital in Chicago. The seven other patients were taken to LaPorte Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City. All victims of the crash were listed as either serious or critically injured, the news release stated.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a Chevrolet mini-van was traveling west on U.S. 6 and pulled in front of a southbound Buick SUV. There were four people in the Chevrolet including the adult male that was ejected and the six-year-old that was flown from the scene. There were five people in the Buick.
