Nyesha Crockett sentenced to 80 years in prison for murder of son, abuse of daughter

A South Bend woman was sentenced to 80 years in prison after she was convicted of murdering her infant son and seriously injuring her daughter, as reported by WNDU.

Nyesha Crockett, 22, was found guilty of murder, battery, assault and child neglect in April.

Prosecutors said she strangled her 11-month-old son Micahyah to death with a T-shirt in September 2014 because she was upset with his father. They also said she strangled her 1-year-old daughter Alaiyah with a scarf in February 2014. The girl suffered severe brain damage because of a lack of oxygen.

Crockett testified during her trial that she never harmed her son. Her attorney argued that police coerced her to confess to crimes that she didn’t commit.

Crockett said she plans to appeal her sentence.
