Elkhart Sheriff’s Department focused on underage drinking & 4H fair patrols

Several teenagers were cited by Elkhart County Sheriff’s Teenage Alcohol Reduction team members, responded to a report of an underage drinking party.

It happened on on Saturday, July 16.

Officers were called to the 18000 block of County Road 46 in New Paris.

Once at the residence and property, STAR team members identified and arrested seven minors who were cited and released for illegal consumption of an alcoholic beverage, according to Capt. James Bradberry with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Of those arrested, six were under the age of 18 and were released to their parents. Another person, Laverda Bontrager, 18, Middlebury, was cited and released, Bradberry stated.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents that beginning this weekend and throughout next week, department members will be in attendance at the Elkhart County 4H fair in an effort to protect youths from the harmful effects of underage drinking and the effects of tobacco and other drugs.
