Court documents released by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor detail the events that took place at the Linebacker Lounge early Saturday morning, Aug. 20, which led to the arrest of Notre Dame senior cornerback Devin Butler.

The following information was detailed in the Probable Cause Affidavit released by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office:

South Bend Police officers arrived at the bar just after midnight, Saturday, Aug. 20,  on the report of a scuffle.

When officers were leaving the bar they heard several women begin screaming at one another. Officers saw one woman who was sitting on a curb get kicked in the head by another woman.

Officers approached that woman to arrest her for battery.

Before officers could intercede, Devin Butler became angry and lunged at the woman who had kicked the other.

Officers saw Butler shove the woman by her head and body, causing her to move 3 to 4 feet.

An officer grabbed Butler and pushed him away from the woman and ordered him to stay back.

Butler began cursing at the officers and approached them

The two officers tried to physically detain Butler, but instead of stopping, Butler began to struggle with one of the officers.

Butler pushed the officer off balance, picked him up over a curb and tackled the officer to the ground.

A struggle then took place on the ground, in which Butler struck the officer in the side and stomach repeatedly and swore and threatened the officers.

Other officers came to try to pull Butler off the officer he was fighting with and Butler grabbed the officer’s duty belt and ripped it off of him.

The officer Butler was fighting with then deployed his taser.

The officer suffered injuries to his elbow, wrist, back, neck and arm. He was treated at Memorial Hospital and released.

By the time the officers were able to detain Butler, the other people involved left the area.

Butler was taken into custody and was booked at the St. Joseph County Jail.

The Court set bond in the amount of $10,000 corporate surety or $1,000 cash. However, formal charges have not been filed.

The State advised the Court that it needs more time to gather further information, evaluate the case in order to determine whether formal charges are appropriate.

The State requested an extension until Wednesday, Aug. 24, to to either file formal charges or advise that no charges will be filed.

It appears that each one of those young men already think that they are something special and something above the law. Get them out of our school and out of our state. August 20, 2016 at 6:58 pm

Those ND students should all be suspended from that school and lose their privilege of playing football for that team. Do you know how many young men would love the opportunity to play for Notre Dame. It makes me sick to hear that that anyone of them would hurt a woman hurt a police officer be on drugs have an unlicensed weapon. It appears that each one of those young men already think that they are something special and something above the law. Get them out of our school and out of our state.
