Ontwa Township police arrest two people who stole cards, identification from mailboxes

Police in Edwardsburg, Michigan feel they have foiled a large identity theft scheme.

A neighbor noticed that a pair of thieves were opening mailboxes along Sunrise Road and called 911. When police in Ontwa Township caught up to them, they allegedly had about ten debit or credit cards that were stolen from not just Edwardsburg, but also in Indiana, according to ABC 57.

The man driving the vehicle is 28-years-old and is from Elkhart. He was with a female passenger. Police also seized evidence from them that seems to indicate they were looking to print checks and identifications.

Ontwa Township police say they’re just starting with the investigation. They’re in the process of identifying more victims and suspects. If you have had your mail stolen, contact the Ontwa Township/Edwardsburg Police Department at (269) 663-8444.
