A horse died and a woman was hospitalized after an early morning crash on Tuesday.
At about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, crews were called to the area of 5190 West U.S. 20 east of Shipshewana on reports of a crash, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department.
When police arrived, they learned there was a crash involving a car and a large horse. The horse died on impact.
The driver was hospitalized for head injuries.
The car was totaled in the crash.

South Bend and Mishawaka have dedicated lanes for bicycles…When will Lagrange and surrounding counties do the same for horse and buggies? Seems like common sense to me.
How many more millions should we collect in tax dollars and spend to widen roads so inattentive drivers don’t need to pay attention to other legal users of the roadways?
That question being asked though, this story doesn’t have the details to make that sort of a determination, no word of a buggy or rider, whether or not the horse was loose. It may have been more similar to a deer strike. Maybe we should put a jumping horse sign on the road…
