A Winona Lake town council man and local business owner has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife.

Petro S. Christos, , also known as Paul Christos, 40, of Winona Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on December 8, on charges of domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. His bond was set at $6,000.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office, on December 2, Winona Lake police officer Joe Bumbaugh responded to a domestic dispute at 502 Chestnut St., Winona Lake.

At the residence, Bumbaugh spoke with a female victim. She told Bumbaugh she and her husband, identified as Christos, had been arguing when he became angry, pulled her down to the floor by her hair and pinned her down. Bumbaugh could see a significant amount of hair missing from the woman’s scalp.

Christos would not come out of the house to speak with Bumbaugh, the officer entered the home and found the Christos lying on the floor with one of his children.

Bumbaugh asked Christos if he pushed his wife and he replied, “no.” Christos was also asked if he pulled his wife’s hair and he would not respond.

Officers spoke with the victim’s father, who was aware of the abuse and had confronted Christos in regards to physically abusing his daughter. During the confrontation, the man shoved Christos and hit him in the face several times.

Christos’s three children were present in the home during both of the altercations.

Bumbaugh spoke with one of Christos’s children, who said he saw his grandfather hit his father in the face.  The child also told police he “saw daddy push mommy down,” according to charging documents.

Christos serves as a council man on the Winona Lake Town Council and is the owner of The Boathouse restaurant. He is currently out of jail on bond.
